Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA)
The doorway to the Catholic faith journey.
At the heart of Catholicism lies a profound invitation to deepen your relationship with God, to explore the richness of Christian tradition, and to embrace a community of believers who walk together in faith. OCIA is the sacred pathway through which individuals embark on this transformative journey.
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (formally RCIA) is a process within the Catholic Church designed for those seeking to become fully initiated members of the faith. Whether you are entirely new to Christianity, coming from another Christian tradition, or simply seeking a deeper understanding of Catholicism, OCIA warmly welcomes you.
What is OCIA?
Period of Inquiry (Precatechumenate): The journey begins with a period of inquiry, a time for asking questions, exploring beliefs, and discerning the call of faith in your life. Through open discussions, reflection, and study, you'll have the opportunity to delve into the core teachings of Catholicism.
Period of the Catechumenate: As you journey deeper into the faith, the catechumenate stage invites you to deepen your understanding of Catholic doctrine, Scripture, liturgy, and tradition. You'll participate in enriching catechetical sessions, spiritual formation, and rituals that nurture your growing relationship with God.
Period of Enlightenment: This period, typically coinciding with the season of Lent, is a time of intense spiritual preparation and purification. Through prayer, fasting, and reflection, you'll discern any obstacles hindering your relationship with God, preparing to receive the sacraments of initiation.
Initiation: The culmination of the OCIA journey is the celebration of the sacraments of initiation – Baptism (if not already baptized), Confirmation, and Eucharist (Holy Communion). These sacraments mark your formal entry into the Catholic Church, sealing your commitment to Christ and His Church.
Period of Mystagogia: Even after initiation, the OCIA journey continues as you deepen your understanding of the sacraments and integrate more fully into the life of the Church. Mystagogia is a period of ongoing formation, reflection, and integration into the community of believers.
Classes begin in September and are held weekly until Easter.
